An Evening with MAC

An Evening with MAC retraces his career from the animation cartoon industry, writing sketches for Dave Allen, to becoming the Daily Mail resident cartoonist to receiving his MBE. Full of amusing anecdotes and serious reflection, this is a rare and engaging opportunity to join Mac, hosted by The Cartoon Museum.

About MAC:
From an early age, Stanley McMurtry, better known as MAC, showed extraordinary talent with his sketches and drawings. In his late teens he devised a strip cartoon for the amusement of his friends and family.

Throughout his time at the Daily Mail Mac has contributed many thousands of pounds from the sale of his cartoons to his favourite charity. This he has done quietly and without recognition.

Mac is immensely proud to have been appointed Chairman of the “Saints and Sinners” club earlier this year and to have been invited to become honorary cartoonist to the Royal Variety Club of Great Britain Golfing Society.

In 2004 he was granted an MBE in the New Years’ honours list for “services to the newspaper industry” and in 2012 he was thrilled to be awarded a life-time achievement award.

Mac spends an inordinate amount of time helping aspiring young cartoonists.

Paul Dacre, Editor at Daily Mail said 'Mac is, quite simply, Britain’s greatest living cartoonist – the last in a sadly dying tradition where superb draughtsmanship is combined with gloriously brilliant humour.

Unlike so many of today’s practitioners – crude, vicious and obsessed by lavatorial jokes and the Westminster village – Mac’s humour is warm, humane and universal. It connects the tears and laughter of real families in the real world. That is why he is so loved by Mail readers.'
